Over the Rainbow

Standard
Over the Rainbow

Background:

My first sequined yarn, and still one of my favourite skeins. I love the combination of simplicity and impact.

Story:

Picture a world we can’t see

Above the clouds,

Falkland-soft cumulus

With mischievous characters leaving gem-trails in their wake.

Metallic rainbow drops

Catching the sun beams,

Glinting like jewels.

A place entirely of imagination.

Storm Breaks

Standard
Storm Breaks

Background:

I wanted to combine two ideas in this skein. One single was spun from bright, mostly primary, rainbow colors. The second single was spun from a black-to-pale grey ombre, which I had created with the help of my drum carder:

The intention was to create a light-to-dark contrast rainbow working across the entire skein.

Story:

Storm breaks. Can you see? Is it coming in or out? Rainbow peeks through. Fading in, or fading away? Beautiful, bright colours declare that though rain may fall and clouds may sail the sky, sun still shines.

Storms blow across the landscape of life. Few of us follow a smooth path. Change is a constant. Challenges rise up, and we grow so that we may get over them. But behind the storm follows the rainbow.

Elsa

Standard
Elsa

Background:

A spinning commission of banana silk and wool dyed by a talented indie dyer in the colours of ‘Elsa’.

Story:

You know those mornings when you wake and you instantly know?

You know before you draw the curtains, before you even really open your eyes.

There’s a strange light quality.

A light that means no other possibility, but snow.

Some spatterings, some deep drifts, all altering the familiar contours.

The snow-covered landscape is new, is strange, is constantly changing

And we rush to explore it with childlike glee.

Glorious Technicolor

Standard
Glorious Technicolor

Background:

Chunky singles yarn.

Story:

Sometimes you look at colours, or their combinations, and think

That doesn’t exist in nature!

As if nature is limited to the greens and blue of a summer field.

Then you look through a microscope and see that sand grains look like the contents of a treasure chest. Or at a picture from the space telescope and see what the universe is capable of.

And realise – Nature isn’t limited.

It gives us everything.
